Review by Stefan
Everything began with a Telephone call. The
radiostation FFH called Robin early in the morning (Wednesday). He entered at
the competition („Win VIP-Tickets for the world’s smallest concert with Melanie
C in Marburg”), they told him, that he has good chances to win and that he maybe
will get a second call from FFH on the next day.
Suddenly on Thursday Morning they called him again! “You’re a winner!” Robin was
a little bit tired in the early morning, but he could answer some questions the
DJ of the Morning show asked him.
Robin and a companion – in this case me :) - were invited to see the world’s
smallest concert with Melanie C in the Capitol Cinema in Marburg/Germany! We
were so happy of course!
Friday: „Here goes!“
2 hours with the train, in Marburg finally we took some photos from the cinema.
From 1pm on more winners came to this place. We also got to know “Native” from
the MelanieC.net Message Board!
I think at 1:40 pm the doors opened. A nice young lady at the entrance wanted to
know to our names. She searched for Robin in the list, found him and announced:
„Oh! So you are the Meet&Greet-Winners!“.
We were so shocked (positively of course)! We couldn’t only see Melanie live in
concert, we also could meet her in personal!
Like every winner we got a „VIP-Passport“. The lady told us to remember her face
and to follow her immediately after the concert.
Then the doors of the cinema hall opened. Robin and me sat down in the second
row next to the stage. The cinema hall was filled with ~90 people (winners,
people from the press and from the radio). The event started with a small
introduction by a FFH-Djane. Some videos from the “Melanie C – Live Hits”-DVD (released
2006) were shown on the big Cinema Screen: „Never Be The Same Again“, „Next Best
Superstar“ and „First Day Of My Life“.
Robin decided to go out for a short time, while „First Day Of My Life“. The
funny thing about this was, that he walked past Melanie at the exit of the
Cinema Hall! He was like: “Oh my god! It’s her!”
After some minutes the gig started! Melanie entered the stage with black clothes!
Beautiful! Plus the nice fringe! The guests were asked to take photos only til
the first song starts.
Melanie C said hello to the audience and was glad to see the fans (especially in
the front row ;) (“the loud ones”).
Paul and Greg, the two guitarists (Greg: +Background Vocals) joined Melanie on
the stage. A great Acousticgig followed!
„The Moment You Believe“ – the new Single – i heard it live for the first time
*So beautiful*
„What If I Stay“ – a song from the new album „This Time“ – sounds lovely!
„This Time“ – a powerful song, reminds me a bit of Alanis Morisette
Greg played a wrong note or something at the beginning of the song „This Time“
and interrupted it. For the audience this “mistake” was not a big deal. They
applaused him. The guitarists checked their guitars again and started to play
again – with big smiles in their faces.
„First Day Of My Life“ – the #1-Single in Germany (Platinum in Germany) was live
just like always – wonderful! All people sang along with her. It’s no wonder,
cos the song is a radiohit in Germany since 2005.
Then the 3 musicians decided to sing/play „The Moment You Believe“ again.
Melanie said she was a little bit nervous at the begining. She wanted to sing
the song better, cos she’s warmed up now. The second performance was better, cos
the audience clapped their hands, above all when she sang the bridge „I
Belieeeeeeeve“ – the audience was thrilled.
Melanie C thanked the audience for coming. The first row shouted “We want more,
we want more!“. Unfortunately she had to go.
Shortly after someone from FFH picked up Robin and me!
Downstairs then we waited for the big moment. A DJ greeted us and chatted with
us a little about the concert and Melanie C. He also mentioned our drawing! Cos
Robin sent FFH a copy of our Melanie C-Portrait, which we drew together in 2005.
We got out (from our bags) our CD’s and our presents for Melanie.
Then finally! The DJane led us into the small VIP-room. Melanie was standing
there already!! We both were so excited! *Shaking* “Pouning Heart* Some people
from the press, Radiopeople, the owner of the cinema, Ying (Assistance of
Melanie C) and some other people were standing in the room.
We introduced ourselves to Melanie and shook hands with her. Melanie: „Hello,
nice to meet you“
The Djane said something like: „They are probably the biggest Melanie C-Fans!
They are fans since the Spice Girls!” Melanie was amazed! She asked us how old
we were at that time. Robin: „10/11 years old“. Melanie thought this was sweet!
„Oh how cute! Little Spicefans!“
Then we talked about the drawn portrait. Robin explained Melanie in English,
that we managed it to give the original-drawing to Melanie in 2005 while the
concert in Mainz. When she saw the copy from Robin she remembered it.
Click here to see the drawing.
We told
her that i draw the big Melanie and Robin the small T-Shirt Melanie. The Djane
translated it into German (for the radio). Melanie said something like: “I think
it’s great that many fans all over the world have artistic talent!”
The Djane then mentioned our website about Melanie. I answered in English (LOL
German question, English answer) – „www dot melanie…“ - in this moment i forgot
the English word for Dash. Robin „rescued“ me and pointed his finger at our
T-Shirt with the address. Melanie continued my sentence!!! That was so nice! „dash
dot net dot ms“.
Then we presented Melanie our selfmade T-Shirt. She wanted to sign it, but we
told her, that it’s a present for her. „Oh! That’s For Me?“ She was happy about
it!
After this the funny signing started! She signed Robin’s CD and Native’s CD ;)
Then she turned to me and signed my CD, my DVD and my brother’s CD.
The Djane said something like: „Watch out! They will unpack some plates, the
complete household and underwear to sign!“. :p
Robin also gave Melanie some photos from her from the concert in Mainz/Germany
and Mannheim/Germany 2005 and 2006 – as a present. She remembered the gigs.
Finally we had a little “Photoshooting” with Melanie! We 3 sat down on couch.
FFH and the local press took photos of us. Melanie also signed some posters for
the owner of the cinema (a woman by the way). In the meantime Melanie spoke into
the microphone: ”Hi! I’m Melanie C! You are listening to FFH.“. Then it was time
to say goodbye. Robin approached Melanie. We shook hands. „Goodbye. It was a
pleasure to meet you.“ Stefan: „See you next time!“ Melanie: “On the next tour!
Will you come?” Robin & Stefan: “Of course”.
Then she disappeared in the backstage area along with her crew. We talked with
the Djane about this meeting and thanked FFH.
It was a great feeling to meet Melanie and to talk to her. She’s so
down-to-earth!
Unfortunately The Meet & Greet was a bit short and hectical, cos Melanie had to
leave this place.
We felt as though it was a long time! We will never forget this moment with
Melanie C!!
Robin and me called our people on the way back home. We visited the Skyline of
Frankfurt before we went home.
Above the city we thought about this special day. „This could be the first day
of my life!“ .
The next day we heard that Melanie was in the same building (Maintower) at that time we were on it. She was giving interviews for the radiostations hr 3 and You FM.
